Peter Riches

Managing Director, Principal Consultant

Peter established Red Pony in 2006 to provide quality writing, editing and communications consultancy services to business and government.

As a writer and editor, he has produced content for websites, social media platforms, tenders, proposals, reports and technical documentation.

Peter is also a skilled developer of Microsoft Office templates, having spent nearly 15 years producing customised Word and PowerPoint files for clients.

He is a well-respected advocate for the industry, presenting at numerous conferences and professional forums, and is an occasional guest lecturer at the University of Melbourne.

Peter is a member of the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd), the Australian Society for Technical Communication (ASTC) and the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP), and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours in English Literature.

Dr Dominic Symes

Senior Consultant

Dominic is a highly specialised writer and editor with experience as a teacher and researcher at the tertiary level, and as a copywriter and editor in the private sector.

Dominic joined Red Pony in June 2022. With his array of experience, Dominic is flexible enough to work across projects and industries with an eye for tonal appropriateness, adherence to convention, and always with an emphasis on readability.

Dominic has worked freelance as an editor, speechwriter and grant writer for clients in the Arts in South Australia. He has taught English and Creative Writing at the University of Adelaide, Swinburne University of Technology and LASALLE College of the Arts (Singapore). Most recently, Dominic worked as a corporate marketing and communications specialist.

Dominic holds a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Adelaide and is a Professional Member of IPEd.

 

Dr Belinda Nemec

Associate Editor and Indexer

Belinda is an experienced writer, editor, indexer, researcher and museum curator.

She joined Red Pony in 2013 and was the lead editor for Betrayal of trust, the report from the 2013 Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into the handling of child abuse by religious and other non-government organisations. The final two-volume report, drawing on the testimony of victims, organisations and experts, ran to almost 700 pages.

Belinda has a sound understanding of the specific terminology and audiences for a range of industries, including finance, telecommunications, health, IT and environmental services.

Clodagh Walsh

Associate Writer and Editor

Clodagh first joined Red Pony in 2013, then again in 2023 after a career in public administration, specialising in health and human services policy development, program delivery and communications. Clodagh has also worked freelance as a writer, editor and digital content specialist for clients within government and the community sector.

Clodagh has deep skills in corporate and policy writing, structural editing, copyediting and digital content management.

Clodagh has written and edited briefings, reports (including annual reports), policy statements, submissions and web content in the areas of public and community health, mental health, health prevention and promotion, aged care, disability, housing and homelessness, multicultural affairs, youth affairs and veterans' affairs.

Clodagh holds a Bachelor of Letters in English Literature and an Executive Masters of Public Administration, both from the University of Melbourne. She is a Professional Member of IPEd.

Sally Woollett

Associate Science Editor

Sally has been a professional editor for more than 20 years.

She has worked across government, publishing, scientific and education sectors in a range of editing and proofreading roles developing textbooks for Pearson Education and Oxford University Press.

Since joining the Red Pony team in 2015, Sally has undertaken technical editing projects for numerous clients including the City of Melbourne, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, VicHealth and the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services.

Sally was also a guest lecturer and program advisory committee member for RMIT University’s Graduate Diploma in Editing and Publishing.

 

Nicolas Brasch

Associate Writer and Trainer

Nicolas has been a corporate writer and trainer for more than 20 years.

He has been undertaking writing projects and conducting business writing workshops for Red Pony since 2016. He is one of the original creators of our Effective business writing workshops which he delivers to Red Pony clients around Australia.

Nicolas is also a highly experienced teacher, delivering writing and communication workshops for various corporations, government departments and not-for-profit organisations.

He is a course coordinator and teacher at Swinburne University, and Festival Director of Melbourne Jewish Book Week.

Bridget Willett

Associate Writer and Editor

Bridget has been a corporate writer and editor for many years.

She has extensive experience in editing, writing, website management and communications across not-for-profit, local and state government, and corporate entities. With a background as a registered nurse, she is particularly knowledgeable about health-related content.

Since joining Red Pony in 2021, she has worked on projects for the Victorian and Australian government.

Louisa Kost

Associate Editor

Louisa has been a professional editor, proofreader and content developer for over 20 years.

She has worked in educational book publishing, standards publishing and business-to-business HR and employment law subscriber services. She has extensive experience editing and writing for government, with a particular focus on web-based health communications and social media.

Louisa first joined Red Pony in 2015, and has recently returned to the fold. In her time at Red Pony, Louisa has contributed to projects for the Victorian Department of Health, the Victorian Department of Education and the Victorian Department of Jobs, Skills Industry and Regions. She has also edited annual reports, tenders and project reports for private sector clients.

Louisa holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne, a Graduate Diploma in Editing and Publishing from RMIT (for which she won the Society of Editors Award for performance with distinction), and a Diploma of Visual Arts. She is a member of the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd), and the National Association for the Visual Arts.

 

Natalie Craig

Associate Writer and Editor

Natalie is a former Age journalist and sub-editor who has won awards for her feature articles on education and social justice issues.

She has been a freelance writer and editor since 2013, working extensively for government clients, with a particular interest in education and health.

A plain English specialist, Natalie has written and edited reports, case studies, speeches, text books, articles, websites and training materials, including those pitched at junior readers or non-native English speakers.

Natalie has been working with Red Pony since 2021.

Dr Kate Rice

Associate Writer and Editor

Kate joined Red Pony in 2023. She is an experienced, award-winning writer with a PhD in ethical creative process. She has over 10 years' experience as a copyeditor, professional translator and proofreader.

Since joining Red Pony, Kate has contributed to projects for the Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance and Western Sydney Airport. Previous clients include Black Swan Press, Bauer Media, HafenCity University Hamburg, Deutsche Bank, and academics and postgraduate students.

In addition to her doctorate in creative writing, Kate holds a Bachelor of Dramatic Arts and Bachelor of Arts majoring in Theatre Studies.
