Resilient Melbourne annual report
CLIENT
City of Melbourne
PROJECT BRIEF
The Resilient Melbourne Delivery Office (Resilient Melbourne) commissioned Red Pony to copyedit its 2018–19 annual report.
Melbourne is part of the 100 Resilient Cities initiative (100RC) established by the Rockefeller Foundation. 100RC supports cities to embed resilience practice in local government and community groups.
In May 2016 the city released Resilient Melbourne, the first resilience strategy by an Australian city. The strategy is the product of collaboration among 1,000 individuals across 230 organisations, 32 local government councils and a number of Victorian Government agencies.
The City of Melbourne has provided regular updates on its progress and achievements in relation to Resilient Melbourne, including through annual reporting.
This reporting has updated stakeholders and partners on the city’s progress implementing the strategy, but it has also targetted potential investors.
Given these parameters, Red Pony initially conducted a comprehensive review of the draft report content and provided suggestions to improve language and address inconsistencies and ambiguities. Comments were also provided where further explanation, information or text changes would clarify meaning and improve flow.
Red Pony recorded editorial decisions on project-specific terminology and language conventions in a dedicated style sheet, which it provided to the Resilient Melbourne Delivery Office.
After layout Red Pony provided proofreading services to ensure that the final content – including additional content provided after the initial copyedit – was error-free and expressed in a tone suitable for its broad readership.
The completed annual report was a professional document that the City of Melbourne could use to convey the collaborative work and milestones achieved through Resilient Melbourne, and to express its plans and aspirations for the future.
